This was our first vision of the skyline of Duluth, MN. In the background is the famous Aerial Lift bridge.
We went to town to find a visitor's center which was open. Due to the state shutdown all state-related services are closed, state parks, rest areas, etc. Unbeknown st to us was the beginning of Duluth's "Sidewalk Sales Days" where parts of the downtown streets were closed to traffic.
This clock was interesting looking so I took a photo of it.
We got information about a train trip up north to Two Harbors which goes along the coastline and Highway 61. Here is picture from the local train station. You can see they are expecting Thomas the Train to come for a visit next month.
As we were heading out of the downtown area we encountered a deer watching as we passed by.
We passed by this Veterans Memorial monument.
One of the rivers which travels out to Lake Superior.
At the edge of Two Harbors we had to stop to gain permission to enter the railroad yard. This deer decided to meander around the tracks while we were there.
Another deer watching the other one (above) who was in between the railroad tracks.
On the waterfront we could see this ore ship (they refer to them as lakers because they sail the Great lakes) coming into port.
Imagine riding in this sleigh in the dead of winter. Below is a photo of the sign with info about its use.
The North Shore Scenic Railroad trip from Duluth to Two Harbors took about 2 hours one-way. Can you imagine how long it would take for a sleigh ride from Duluth to Two Harbors? Brrrrrrrrrrrr!
