This is our second time going to a horse pulling event, here we see a team warming up, getting familar with the arena and the crowd
Another team warming up, the teams are grouped according to the weight of the team
Here you get a sense of how much strength it takes to control a team
In the beginning, the sleigh was only half loaded, each full pull was twenty feet. They had a rod with twenty feet of rope attached which they put in the ground at the rear of the sleigh, once that rod was pulled over it was then a full pull.
Check out the hind quarter muscles on the near horse
Some of the teams pulled more than twice their weight
Look how full this sleigh is, right at 10,000 pounds
Another team pulling a full sleigh
Look at how hard this team is trying
Some made the full pull others did not, but the one thing I saw was that every team seemed to relish pulling the sleigh
This team was one where the team pulled in unison
The horses really hunkered down when the loads got heavy
The winning team came back and pulled 11,000 pounds
How about this, I liked it
We did not find out what a wild west soda was, as we had a couple buds
