The Ames Monument

The Ames Monument is just off I-80, take exit #329, turn south for a short dirt road drive and you will spot the 60 ft. pyramid-shaped monument.

Near the top of one side of the pyramid is this bust of one of the Ames brothers.
On the third side high up was this sign in memory of Oakes and Oliver Ames (from Massachusetts).
I walked back aways to show that the monument is out in the middle of a large prairie. Of course Jo is getting ready to do her photo thing. She walked around the pyramid and really had to fight the wind because it was ablowing out there.
The monument watches over the lonely remains of the one-time rail town of Sherman. It became a ghost town with the relocation of the Union Pacific tracks.
The monument was built in 1881 to honor the Ames brothers who were influential leaders in the construction of the transcontinental railroad.
The bust of the other brother, the brothers were involved in some sort of scandal where they may have mis-managed some of the railroads money.
