This was quite a feat to lay ten miles of track in a day, they did it on April 28th,1969.
Each spike has a story behind it.

I think there were four states that brought spikes to Promontory (Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California).
Considering all things the surveyors did a great job to make the tracks meet in Promontory.
This sign kind of says it all, a great historical event that allowed goods to be shipped coast to coast.
